Settlement Trail (1884 - 2014)

Art installation for Lucky Dip, Camberwell Arts Festival

Cambridge House Plinths
Cambridge House
1 Addington Square
London SE5 0HF

14 - 22 June
Open 24 hours daily

Settlement Trail (1884 - 2014) Miyuki is looking at the history of the settlement movement in UK. Cambridge House is one of the earliest settlement houses and still very active. Miyuki created an installation in the front garden space including the plinths. Each sculpture has the name of the settlement house and the location. It is mapped across the space including the settlement houses opened in the UK from 1884 to 1940. The work traces this history and their current locations showing that some are still active (the doorway will be open) and some no longer exist (the doorway will be closed).

Lucky Dip is an open art competition that takes place out in the open! 20 shortlisted artists have been randomly allocated a public space in Camberwell through a lucky dip process. Find out how they’ve transformed their allocated sites by following our Lucky Dip art trail through Camberwell.
